Galwch Acw is an arts and crafts shop like no other. We can be found on Bangor Street in Caernarfon, right in the centre of the town’s hustle and bustle. Our doors opened for business in October 2019, and our primary goal is to act as a shop window for the amazing arts and crafts developed by adults with learning disabilities who work in our hubs and centres throughout Gwynedd. In addition, Galwch Acw acts as a community hub which develops opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities to develop workplace skills, independence and also provides a safe environment where individuals can express themselves through arts and crafts and much more.
Any profit made here at Galwch Acw is re-invested to develop more opportunities for adults with learning disabilities in Gwynedd. This is a model that has been used by the Gwynedd Council’s Learning Disability Service for many years, and is something that helps us as we strive to provide the best possible services for the individuals living in our county. As well as developing day services for individuals with learning disabilities, we hope the shop will benefit the local community as we work to develop a programme of activities and social events during the evenings.
The shop’s ethos is upcycling and making use of materials people have given up on, and this is clear to see as you walk through the door. And if you weren’t already convinced, we’re sure that one look at our showpiece crafts table which was made using recycled scaffolding planks and scrap metal will change your mind! If you would like to know more about upcoming events at the shop, call by for a cuppa and a chat? Or follow us on Facebook and Instagram!
